Okay, I’m skipping ahead many, many days, because it’s clear I won’t catch up till I’m home, till today. Maui. The last island before returning to Honolulu and reaching the end of the holidays.<\/p>\n

A very quick summary.<\/p>\n

Visited Haleakala National Park. Haleakala is a dormant volcano.<\/p>\n

Visited Iao Valley State Park.<\/p>\n

Ate a plate lunch. Typical meal for a person here. Two scoops of rice, a mac salad and a choice of meat.<\/p>\n

Why I think Hawaii is like Malaysia.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Many “Mahalo, this toilet (or substitute whatever) is spoilt” signs.<\/li>\n
  2. Many potholes unfixed.<\/li>\n
  3. Fixed potholes are done patchwork style.<\/li>\n
  4. Airports signs pasted haphazardly with paper.<\/li>\n
  5. Stuff put up (such as a drinking fountain) then left unmaintained and spoilt.<\/li>\n
  6. Loads of banana trees, sugar cane, pineapple, guava, noni….<\/li>\n
  7. Wooden houses with zinc roofs.<\/li>\n
  8. Things are slow.<\/li>\n
  9. Foliage very much like Malaysia. Scenic drives are like driving off the North South Highway.<\/li>\n
  10. A sense of “can’t be bothered-ness”.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This is the last Hawaii island I’m visiting. Have visited Oahu (Honolulu) and the Big Island (Hawaii) already. Will try and work backward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
