(And I don’t even care that much for the Dalai Lama.) Never forget Tiananmen Square of 1989.

They’ve used their population numbers and huge potential markets to force companies to act in certain ways before allowing companies to enter China. Remember Yahoo! having to filter out “unapproved” websites.

Right now, I’m feeling very anti-China and my silent protest is not watching the Olympics this year. We know how badly China wants to show off to the world, using this as their PR card.

Not good enough, China.

Let’s not pretend the Olympics is about sports only. It has always been about politics because it has always been about money. And we know you don’t separate the two.

And since I’m at it, let me add Thailand to the fold. Ex-celebrity chef, now Thai PM Samak Sundaravej said of Aung San Suu Kyi:

“They are not releasing her, but they will not interfere with her. They will put her on the shelf and not bother with her, which is unacceptable to foreigners,” Samak, a vitriolic 72-year-old right-winger, told reporters.

“We think it’s OK if she is put on the shelf. But others admire her because of it,” he said.

(Original source. What arrogance it is for a government to reject help or choose what type of help the country needs when her citizens are catching a preventable disease or getting infections from wounds that could have been treated.

And our ASEAN leaders? Drafting proposals for emergency meetings to help Myanmar? Come on!

Send the troops in with aid and the aid workers. Ensure it reaches the right people and isn’t used for more political propaganda.

Who are we kidding?
