This billboard for Newton One on… let me guess… One Newton Road, that has a nice postal code but crappy location right on Newton Circus, reminds me of one of those visual trick drawings – you know the old witch vs young woman with shawl – only less complex. One or three?<\/p>\n So Phua Chu Kang has walked off Singapore TV into the lucrative career of modelling.<\/p>\n Singaporeans know the importance of education. We have a first world education system that has taught us not to litter or be fined, not to spit or be fined, how to use the toilet considerately or be… no there’s no fine for that, and to be patriotic.<\/p>\n Yes, Dear Singaporeans, the government has given you your free flag. So why so reluctant to fly your flag proud? Well maybe because not too long ago, owning a Singapore flag was impossible. To hold one, to drape one around your shoulders, to display one, to sell one was illegal.<\/p>\n So now, when we get a flag slipped under our doors, or put in our mailboxes, we hoard it, just in case one day, it be decreed illegal again. Wonder if it’s an international colour standard.<\/p>\n And to all the aunties who like to snatch extra bags from NTUC Fairprice, here’s a reason not to.<\/p>\n Yes, NTUC has found a way to stop plastic bag theives (the abovementioned aunties), make bags child-safe and have now rendered plastic bags perfectly un-re-useable.<\/p>\n Okay, the poor plastic bag has been accused of being a real environmental killer. But I really like plastic bags. Made well, they can be used many times over. First to bring the groceries home, then to put trash in.<\/p>\n In between that, you might use it to transport pots of soups and other liquids to your auntie’s house, to your friend’s house, to pass things to other people. Used in multiple layers, it can be used to store sugar and keep ants completely out. What use is a paper bag? It gets soggy. It can’t hold trash. It tears easily. And what about those trees?<\/p>\n So now you put a hole in a plastic bag? That really kills me. And the environment.<\/p>\n So literal. Here’s another. “They put creativity into Cold Storage”.
