How to be a screenwriter

Exactly eight days ago, on America’s Independence Day, 4th of July, I received this e-mail from an unknown someone:

Hi Joanne,

Very sorry to bother you, as you’re probably very busy.

I have a friend who is very, very passionate about become a screenwriter for tv and films too. However, she is feeling very lost at the moment, and finding it very difficult to find out how to get her foot into the industry’s writing scene. I was wondering if you might have any advice for her? How can she move towards her dream of becoming a screenwriter?

The Right Angle Obtuse About Payment

Well, as some of you know, I’ve had difficulty getting The Right Angle to pay me for work completed in March this year.

Because of warnings from others, I insisted that I be paid in parts as work was completed. And I’m glad I did. During the project, I had to refuse to submit further work twice because payment had been delayed. Still, I completed the project and The Right Angle owed me 30% to be paid in 30 days after the final script.

Needless to say, 30 days passed. The last episode of the show aired even before this 30 day period was up. And still today, I’m waiting for money.
