My dear friends,
When Gomez (WP) messed up his minority application at the Elections Department, the flats in East Coast started shaking as if there’d been an earthquake in Indonesia.
Nope. It didn’t. Did an eyebrow even lift?
Today, the PAP makes it that because of the whole Gomez incident, that Singaporean’s faith in the fairness of the electoral process has been shaken. Questions about the integrity of the Elections Department and the electoral process have been raised. Are the Elections Department favouring one party over another?
I didn’t feel the questioning, did you? I suppose the PAP has a real pulse on the people. The Chees would vehemently disagree, I’m sure.
The PAP have always remained white and untouchable, planted their feet right on the line of integrity.
Still, hasn’t it been the case that for years, people have been wondering if their vote is really secret? We all know votes can be traced.
Hasn’t there been talk that electoral boundaries are always re-drawn so that it favours the PAP?
Aren’t those questions also about the integrity of the electoral process?
If some Opposition member had gone on that route, he’d be the guy getting it from the PAP, not Gomez.
I’ve not known of any election around the world where not a single person questions the electoral process. There’s no doubt in my mind that at any second in the day, there’s not a single person who believes that Governments are corruption free. Bring some non-partisan group to monitor the elections and you’re still going to get someone who doesn’t believe any election is clean. With or without Gomez, sceptics live among us.
The Straits Times actually has the conversation that took place between the Elections Department and Gomez. Was it taped? Are all conversations taped at the Elections Department? Maybe it was taped by the media. I don’t know.
So the events go like this: Ms Florence Tan of the Elections Department asks Gomez what happened exactly (and note, The Straits Times adds that Gomez did not know of the video tape at this time, although Ms Tan had full knowledge of the contents of the tape) before revealing she had a tape showing what actually happened.
Let’s study some other possible sequence of events.
A. Gomez calls, gave his version of the events. Phone call ends. Ms Tan checks the tape, calls Gomez back and shows the tape to him to clear the air.
B. Gomez comes, waves his finger at Ms Tan yet again and warns of “consequences”. She says, don’t wave your finger at me, I have you on tape not submitting the form.
But no, she led him into repeating what happened, before saying, I have the tape.
Ha ha! Got you!
Trap? You decide.
And how come nobody picks on the Elections Department for not updating the time and date on their video footage since 2003 when the camera was installed? I think that’s pretty sloppy. Pull up taped evidence that shows the wrong date, maybe even time?
Maybe they got a Gomez lookalike. Maybe the whole thing was staged. Maybe the stupid director who staged it and re-enacted the events was stupid enough to mess up the dates on the tape.
Whole lot of maybes. No evidence. Sure to land in jail. I retract eveyrthing I’ve said above.
But this is no maybe: Three pages in The Straits Times to tell me that Gomez is a liar and that Low Thia Khiang is even worse for endorsing him. I’m sick of it.
