To receive the stupid call from The Right Angle really killed my morning, but I happened to check out the signature link at the bottom of a post of this guy on Clubsnap, a local photography forum. And immediately I felt way better.
Okay, so Dreams may be too sentimental. But I think the idea behind it is so pure that it warrants a look.
I especially like the way the photographer, Charles Lim captured the simple dreams of all the people he photographed in Chinatown.
I like it also because in showing what dreams people have, I also get a sense of what the photographer is searching for in his life. Sure, he claims it’s a document of passing time. But I think these photos reflect more than that of the photographer. And for me, this is what makes these photos successful.
Go take a look.

Thank you for your kind words and the link to the slideshow.
yes, very nice. sentimental, but it works for me too. to me, a great photo is more than just something that is technically or visually successful. it’s the story behind the image. the 1000 words. as it were. etc etc.
i love that one of the guys photographed wrote what looked to be his IC number on the chalkboard. hee hee.
🙂
Perhaps, you can share with me when i back singapore?
Let’s keep in touch.

Charles,
I was wondering if you are a frequent visitor to that market?
I try to ask for permission before I take photos of markets but I find that a lot of the vendors tend to be suspicious. They think I’m from the newspapers or something.
It confounds me why they would think so since I’m shooting in shorts and slippers. Maybe they think I’m undercover.
For me, the greatest barrier is language as I’m unable to communicate freely with them as my Chinese sucks.
Hi,
Language is “never” is problem as i have met all kinds of people during this collection. International language will be the “Body Language”
A open heart is important too. 以心待人。 THat’s what i always believe for human being. Be it who they are. A basic of trust, acceptance, respect and understanding are what those people have given to me.
Some said i am too naive, some say i am stupid for doing what i have been doing. It not about the outcome, it’s about the process 😀 If one know that he wont be successed then shall he give up at all? No, right? We will never what will be happing. Faiths are very important. That’s the drive in me why i have been doing. It a belief that i have. Even though it never happen in the history nor it will be in the future but never say die till our last breath ease…..
i understand how you felt when you approached them. As for me too, but i always told those people i met, it is ok that if you people are not comfortable to be photographed by me. Then i will ask them can i just share something with them. No obligations at all. It’s just simply sharing my thought with them. Some after listening to it then they are ok but not all.
But, those at the chinatown, really one of my best journey that i have. Sad to say that, things dont always happen like what you have been thinking off. These will share to you only if when we meet up. It’s quite “personal” in a way. Nothing very serious too, it just some disappointments.
All these while, many people are very curious about me and what i have been doing. And many dont really get it nor they “believe” it. Baiscally, it hard to “understand” what i am doing and it’s hard to “believe.
Seriously, your comments that you have wrote. It really very heart warming……..It really felt so consoled. Need not to be many people. It never about the quantity, it about quality.
Thanks again for your “feels” after seeing the little slideshow.
This is my little diary that i updates my friend who just wondering how am i or where am i. Hope you will enjoy the journey.
