The weekend in Hong Kong (not over yet)

We made it out of Lin Heung and after a short ride up the Mid levels escalators and a walk around Central, we took the ferry to Lantau Island to find Tai O.

Bus terminus at Lantau Island

Lantau Island, to me, was surprising because the first impression when you arrive there is is that it’s a small place with a few blocks of flats. But as you drive further in, you’re taken in by how many houses there are and how many people live in Lantau and make a life there.

Welcome to Tai O

We took a 45 minute bus ride, passing many chalets, a few villages and a prison. I was surprised by how big the island is.

Here, we found blue skies and for a HKD20, you get a 25 minute ride out to see pink dolphins. We got hooked but the dolphins did not come out and play. Still, we got some really nice blue sky in Tai O.

This was the pretty side of Hong Kong.

Besides good views and a nice walk in the town of Tai O, we also had some very good bean curd. And the lady from the shop, who carried her child on her back as she prepared our dessert, told us that life was really good in Tai O. Very relaxing with good air.

From what I had seen, there was no reason to doubt her words.

We took a bus out to Tung Chung, where the outlets are and took an MTR back to Central where we boarded a bus to The Peak for a night time view of the city.

A lot of people with their serious tripod set ups were there. And not just the young, old people were also all into photography.

Then we headed out to Causeway Bay to find the famous Mak’s Noodle and had dessert at Lucky Dessert.

The noodles at Mak’s was pretty good, but overpriced. Wanton noodles for 3 persons was over S$40. Wanton that price better have abalone, lobster, sharks fin and much more inside it to be that price.

The Durian Soup sounds gross, and frankly, I was sceptical,  but it is good. It was just durian pulp and pomelo.

We also tried some banana – I forget what it’s called. It’s banana with a bit of chocolate sponge in a crispy skin, drizzled with some kiwi or dragonfruit sauce (I couldn’t really taste, I’m guessing from the seeds). Also good. But I’m always scared by desserts dusted with icing sugar as this one was. If you take a breath near the thing, you will get choked, as S did.

By the time we headed home, it was pass midnight, I was exhausted and fell asleep on the way back. But I suspect S & S had just woken up, these friendly creatures of the night.
