A new camera…

… and an old lens.

Yes, after many years with my trusty D70 that most have discarded, I finally made an upgrade to the D600. I passed on the D80, was seriously tempted by the D90, but I held out and I’m glad. The D600 is really a big change and yes, the price was a big upgrade too.

Now, I can finally return to my 50mm 1.8, which on the APS-C sensor was about 70-80mm, way too long for regular photo work.

Even though the D600 is a full frame sensor, it’s smaller light-weight body actually matches well with the 50mm lens that sometimes looks absolutely lost on the D800s and D3s and D4s.

Being back to a simple basic lens has reminded me how remarkably sharp this affordable lens is.

Also, the noise handling of the D600 is amazing. The photos taken here are at ISO800. It was pure impossible to use photos at this ISO setting from the D70. But maybe high ISO noise has been amazing for a while, it’s just that I haven’t upgraded my camera in a long time and technology has improved by leaps and bounds in the meantime.

I did not take many photos, as I’m busy with other stuff. But the dogs were around, and I forced them to model a bit.

Hunter is a very bad model as he can’t stay still. And he has a long snout and likes to jab his very moist nose right into the lens, leaving a wet mark.

Sumo is a better model as he can stay in a position for a long time. But he was unhappy to co-operate as he was waiting for lunch. You can see in his eyes how reluctant he was. But I bribed him with some cheese biscuits.
