Yes, not one of those animal sightings where someone else spotted it first and your car pulls alongside and you ask: What do you see?
We wen’t on a little walk to see Wraith falls and came upon this fat fellow.
Ain’t he a beauty? It was much more satisfying discovering him, munching on grass, than with these cow elk in the Mamoth Hot Springs town area.
Oh yes, and by the way, for all of you wondering just how hot I’m suffering, we’ll, let me tell you. i’m suffering from the lack of clothes it seems.
First, in Nebraska, it was around 70-80 when it should have been 90. But that was good.
Today, we go by the Beartooth Scenic Byway and hit – hailstones or snow, I don’t know. It’s like balls of snow. ‘Cause hailstones is ice right? But it wasn’t ice. And it wasn’t snow flakes.
Long story short, I was freezing! Yes, people, I went up so high, there were still ice sheets and the clouds had become mist. But it’s supposed to be summer. It’s supposed to be a nice 80 F degrees. Nice enough to wear shorts, no? Oh no, it was 60-65! And there was plenty of wind. I was shivering in my shorts and slippers!
It was already cold in Gardiner. The lady at the hotel said it was “unusually cold” smirking at my berms and faded ad thinned “Life is Good” t-shirt.
Frankly, I’d rather have this than the 90-100 F degree I’ve been expecting.
More ND400 fun:
Those photos were of a waterfall along the Beartooth Scenic Highway, which is so beautiful. A real test of driving skills with hairpin turns that one can only do at 20 MPH. Beartooth offers so much to see. From forests to lakes to rocky morraine landscapes.
We left Yellowstone via the NE gate, and headed up Beartooth to Red Lodge, Montana. We drove up to Roscoe to see some Montana landscape. Rolling hills, colours of gold and yellow.
We had dinner at Bearcreek Saloon and watched pig races, which was short and loads of fun. Ate Montana steak. I can’t tell the difference whether it comes from Omaha or Montana. And who cares? It tasted great!
Yes, we are in Buffalo Bill / Sundance Kid territory. Tomorrow, we are in Cody, Wyoming. This is where the Buffalo Bill Historical Museum is.
We have left Yellowstone National Park and will enter it when we head from Cody to Jackson via YNP and the Grand Tetons.
It occurred to me today that we would have taken all the possible entrances in and out of Yellowstone Nationa Park in this one trip.

that is a huge elk!! wow.
Nice pics. What is the ND400? Is it an ND filter?
nice that it’s cold too – did you not bring ANY colder weather clothes to layer?

I show you the ND400 next time. It is practically black. I brought one long sleeved t-shirt that I got when I was too cold in Japan. Apparently, that wasn’t good enough.
Oh and my sunglasses for my Japan trip that I never used? I’m finally using them properly now.
