OCBC Ang Pows

Yet another long overdue post.

CNY 2008, had a great ang pow. Long time since I saw such a nice series of ang pows. And from the fuddy duddy of banks, OCBC!

What’s nice about them?

Firstly, while every ang pow has a design that can stand on its own, when you connect two ang pows, they actually combine to create one motif.

Secondly, they have this cut out that when you fold over the top of the ang pow, a tab will stick out.

I thought they were fun.

You see for yourself. See if you think it’s nice or not.

And these are the tops of each of the ang pows, when the tops have been folded over and sealed. I thought it was a nice touch. But I wished that in keeping with the idea of pairs, that one of these sticking up tabs, should have been on the left, like the third one (clouds).

What didn’t work for me was that the ang pows were packed in 10s. So there were always two odd ang pows not in any particular pair.

Just like the ang pows, OCBC should have broke tradition and packed their ang pows in packs of eights.

(And yeah, they’re scans, not photos.)

Excuse me, speak for yourself, aunty. I’ve always appreciated nice ang pows. Last time, they were just the “Fu” character and some bank or company logo. It made the $1 content hard to swallow. At least today, you have something to appreciate even if it’s still just a $1 coin in there.
