Wow, I’m on a roll here. After days of zero posts, this is my third!
Okay, we are off to Lake Tahoe on a Saturday. I wasn’t keen on Lake Tahoe. I’d wanted to do the redwood forests, but this was my mother’s choice.
What can I say about the Lake Tahoe?
It’s one big lake. Clean, clear and deep. You can see how the water changes colour with the depth above. Quite happy with that phot up there, which I call “Colours of Lake Tahoe”. Would’ve done better with a polarizer.
Anyway, the drive was quite nice, but repetitive and a bit boring.
It’s a pleasant lake, but I wasn’t that impressed. Unless you always come to San Francisco or the USA and have been to all the major points, then sure, visit Lake Tahoe. Or unless you come for the skiing, which is supposed to be impressive.
I wouldn’t know. I never made it up the Heavenly Gondola because it was too windy. Mother Nature saved us US$82 in tickets.
We spent two nights in Lake Tahoe at the Best Western Station House Inn and was supposed to have a great breakfast at the Award winning LewMarNel’s restaurant. Triple A triple diamond restaurant.
Service was bad on Sunday. Tables were empty, but the waiting room was filled. Someone turned to me and said the wait was worth it.
Take it from me. It wasn’t. Serving diner type breakfast – pancakes, eggs, sausages, homestyle potatoes, I’ve had better and faster in diners from the US to Canada. What’s more, some of these diners, give me steak with those eggs and pancakes.
On Monday, service was marginally better.
The thing that I most dislike about Lake Tahoe are the private beaches. I don’t like the way fences are put up around the lake. I felt trapped in.
Outside of Lake Tahoe, my mother mis-read the map and we went to Cason City, NV (no U-turns possible) and it was quite charming. It has a couple of casinos and a very nice Lowe’s Hardware, which I’ve wanted to visit for a while. We keep going to Ace in various states.
On another day, we, this time intentionally, drove out to Truckee, which was okay.
