OCBC’s ATM Plus

Seen these new machines that OCBC has installed just about everywhere that do just about everything?

OCBC’s ATM Plus

The ATM Plus machines swallow cash as fast as it spits out cash.

With the old Cash Deposit machines, you could pop in cash, then tell the machine when to shut it’s mouth. But not this money grabbing one.

Ready or not, it’ll snap shut. So if you don’t have all your cash ready to put in the machine, like I didn’t, it’ll just close it’s money trap so fast you might lose your fingers.

And then it counts the notes and if it doesn’t find enough (as in my case, because I wasn’t ready), it proceeds to very angrily crumple up your notes (mine happened to be a very nice clean $50 note with a small fold in the corner) and then spit it back out at you without giving any reason and return your card. Don’t waste this machine’s time.

The good ol’ Cash Deposit machine – the old fella that does only one thing – would tell me that I had put in less or more than the amount I typed in and if I would like to continue the transaction, thank you

Then I noticed this note at the bottom left hand of the ATM Plus machine:

OCBC’s ATM Plus DO NOT note

It says, that amongst other things like paper clips, coins and staples, I shouldn’t not put “Folder or crumpled notes”. No kidding.

Here’s a close up:

Is this product a reflection of the new Singaporean?

They can do just about everything, surf the net, read, IM, watch TV, SMS, have sex from age 13, get in gang fights, all at the same time, but some basics in life still escape them.
