Well, as some of you know, I’ve had difficulty getting The Right Angle to pay me for work completed in March this year.
Because of warnings from others, I insisted that I be paid in parts as work was completed. And I’m glad I did. During the project, I had to refuse to submit further work twice because payment had been delayed. Still, I completed the project and The Right Angle owed me 30% to be paid in 30 days after the final script.
Needless to say, 30 days passed. The last episode of the show aired even before this 30 day period was up. And still today, I’m waiting for money.
Well, the person handling my payment has changed three times. There was a lot of back and forth, calls not returned, messages left and not acknowledged and I finally accepted their offer of a post dated cheque for 1st September. Five months after the last work was submitted. They promised to mail me the cheque within a week.
Two weeks later, no post dated cheque, I got fedup. Called NTUC (I have a Union Membership to get those lovely Linkpoints. Yeah.). They do insurance, supermarket, hypermarket, casket businesses, I wondered about their core function.
Well, turns out that all the contracts we write with production companies are not covered under the Employment Act. So, strictly speaking Union membership is worthless under this, because Unions work with Employee/Employer relations.
So NTUC was really doing me a favour by contacting The Right Angle on my behalf and mediating the whole situation.
Long story short, The Right Angle has agreed to pay 50% of the last 30% on the 24th of August and the remaining as a post dated cheque for 15th September.
The Union rep, Faridah, was told by the new person handling accounts, some person called Sabrina, that The Right Angle was having cash flow problems. Faridah advised me to take whatever money they give me and got The Right Angle to agree to that 50% payment first.
NTUC considers the case closed.
The Right Angle (Sabrina) will call me to pick up the cheque next week. Let’s see how that goes. Otherwise, it’s another call again to NTUC.
Thanks NTUC. This is why I pay $36 every year.
try threatening them with the small claims court. Cause they will do a case for you if u need to.
